TERRITORY is a quarterly magazine featuring the best of life in Boise and its surrounding communities. Our commitment is to provide engaging, in-depth, and visually compelling articles about the city, its people and the urban West lifestyle. Between longer feature articles and shorter but timely department pieces, we bring to our readers stories about technology and innovation, education, health and wellness, adventure, art, music and dance, theater, home design, and dining. We hope you’ll join us as we explore all that is worth celebrating throughout the Treasure Valley.
Laurie Sammis, publisher
Laurie Sammis is a publisher by profession and lover of world travel, foreign cultures, the arts, languages, souls, birds of prey, wild spaces and all pure bodies of water, whether fresh or saltwater. At the age of 8 she began writing small plays and newscasts for her siblings to perform, which grew into a passion for the creative process and everything you discover by asking the questions “why” and “how.” Her love of the written word has taken her to Africa, Polynesia, Nepal, the outback of Australia and, eventually, back home to Sun Valley, Idaho.
Adam Tanous, managing editor
Adam Tanous moved to Idaho in 1992 to write, ski patrol and run rivers. Twenty-five years later he continues to enjoy all three afflictions, though not nearly as much as he enjoys raising his two children in such a remarkable part of the world. Adam was educated at Williams College, Stanford University, and the University of Virginia, studying English literature, chemical engineering and fiction writing, respectively.
Sean McDonald, art director
Sean McDonald, our fearless Art Director is a man of many hats, size 7 3/4 to be exact. His experience spans over 25 years of creative service as a Designer, Director, COO and CEO in a variety of industries. When he isn’t in a meeting or cruising around the city in his Mini Cooper named Nigel, Sean is hard at work at his workstation with Mumford & Sons, Iggy Pop or The Pogues playing in the background…at all hours of the day and night. His favorite quote; “What doesn’t kill you…had better start running! “
Cheryl Glenn, sales director
Cheryl Glenn is a second generation Idahoan. She graduated from Boise State University and is a proud Bronco fan and a longtime football season ticket holder. Cheryl has lived in other states in the past but came home to Idaho for good several years ago. She has worked for many years in media sales in Boise and looks forward to working with all of the many friends and business acquaintances she has had the pleasure to meet throughout the years. Cheryl is very excited to share Territory with friends new and old.
Linda Murphy, controller
When Linda Murphy moved to Ketchum in July 1983, she had never seen Sun Valley, nor did she have any idea that she would be staying for the next 34 years! Linda grew up in a small town outside Burlington, Vermont, called Essex Junction. She raised two daughters, both now in college, (one almost off the payroll) and still loves living in the Wood River Valley. In her free time, she loves to ski the bowls on Baldy, run, bike, waterski, and play tennis.
